My Baba’s parents<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Look upon me from a restored photograph<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From a time and place<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So different from my own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yet I see myself (and so many of my family members)In their eyes, faces, and hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I somehow know these people–and love them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These hardworking and noble ancestors<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who rose to the challenge of life,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Never gave up, and pushed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On and onward<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conquering despair–and all the “slings and arrows”of “outrageous fortune”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To remind me of my own place, time<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And responsibility<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To keep carrying on and onwardIn spite of uncertainty, fear, and sorrow<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a hopeful heart<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And deep, abiding faith<\/p>\n\n\n\n
